Beauty and the snow

Hi, I’m checking in from Amsterdam, after last week’s incredible trip to Barcelona! I went through my pictures this morning and I saw I had still some content left that I had not shared with you from my February trip to Switzerland.

Since it was my first wintersports trip, I decided to do some research on what beauty essentials to bring. So here’s my little list of beauty items to pack when you’ve planned to spend the holidays in the snow, or sun. It doesn’t really matter, because actually these products are essentials in hot and cold weather. When you are off to hit the slopes, girls like us need more than enough space for warm and fluffy coats, so I plannend for some beauty essentials that pack up small.

SPF
First things first, wether you are sunbathing on a bounty island or you are up in the snowy mountains with sub zero temperatures, make sure you always use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. In fact the sun is actually much stronger on high altitudes and the reflections off the snow put you at greater risk of a burn… and wrinkles.

The whole Sisley Sunscreen range is something I swear by. The smell is just lovely, naturally scented with essential oils. It does not only protect but also contains active anti-aging ingredients.

Their Super Soin solaire, SPF 50 visage protects my face from a raccoon look. An essential thus, as this is not a good apres-ski look, ladies! But serious, this product is brilliant as it does a great job protecting my skin from UVA and UVB rays without clogging my pores or looking too greasy. And this pocket sized packaging with a pump makes it ideal for skiing, and very easy to re-apply as needed.

During the lunchbreak I use Sisley Sunleya soin solair global anti-age, SPF30 on my arms and neck. The rich formula allows it to deeply penetrate the skin, it absorbs rapidly and nourishes as it starts taking effect. And at the end of the day, after taking a shower, I love to use the Sisley Sunleya Soin Apres-soleil Anti-age.

LIPBALM
This Kiehls #1 Lip balm is one of my ALL-TIME favorite beauty products. Even though the Balm #1 has an awful smell and quite abhorrent taste! But in these extreme weather conditions this is THE wonder-worker when it comes to treating my chapped lips. And there is fantastic news: recently the Kiehls family extended its lip balm range with versions with yummy flavors to bring you the best of both worlds.

BB CREAM
I like to keep my make-up as low-key as possible when I’m outside in the snow. To enhance my complexion and create a glowy skin I opt for a BB cream. My newest discovery is the Kiehls actively correcting & beautifying BB cream, it is light and applies flawless to my skin plus it contains SPF50!

MAKEUP
To finish the look I layer a bit of the red Sisley’s Phyto-lip twist in the color 13 over my favorite lip balm to get a pop of color and a lovely shine. And the good thing is that I do not have to re-apply it as it lasts for the longest time. Now I only need some mascara and I’m ready!

PERFUME
The final ski essential is a perfume. I’m obsessed with Maison Martin Margiela’s ‘Replica’ Lazy Sunday Morning. The fragrance evokes the feeling of ultimate relaxation and has a very powdery smell since this floral fragrance combines the notes of lily of the valley, patchouli, iris and white musk. That’s quite a mouthful, but it definitely does the trick!

  1. Hi Merel!
Your beauty products look great! What a nice idea with the snow in the background. I always use sunscreen with SPF 50 when I go to holidays. The color of the lipstick looks beautiful! I love red lipstick. You look beautiful with this lip color. I’ve never heard about that perfume but it sounds like one of these perfumes that I like very much 🙂
By the way, I wish you a great time at Bali! Please send me a lot of sunshine and good vibes over to Germany 😉

  2. Thanks so much for listing these cold weather essentials, Merel! I’ve heard a lot about Kiehl’s lip balm, but never tried it. My lips have the tendency to dry a bit more in winter, so I am always looking for a better product to take care of them:)
I am also curious about that BB cream with SPF. I just love foundations with the built-in sunscreen; it makes makeup and skincare routine so much easier!
