The Colony Hotel in Bali

After a few wonderful days in Singapore I headed for Bali, my favorite island, for a 3 week trip around the southern part. I have lived and worked on Bali for several years and I was looking forward to experiencing the island in a more leisurely style, staying at several beautiful hotels.

The Colony Hotel was my first stop, a small and intimate adult only boutique hotel in Seminyak. Built in colonial style with two storeys and just 20 rooms around the central pool, it is a true oasis. Since it’s set back a little from the street, it is quiet yet everything you want and need lies within walking distance. The rooms aren’t extremely large, but very clean and come with large marble bathrooms and luxurious fixtures. Having breakfast by the pool underlines the romantic feeling the hotel offers.

The beach is just a few minutes away, across the street, perfect for watching the famous Bali sunsets. A delightful place to do this is in the wonderful Breeze restaurant just across from the Colony Hotel, in the Samaya resort. For lunch I recommend Sea Circus, which is just around the corner and if you want to try another breakfast than the Colony Hotel already offers, go for La Lucciola, a 2 minute walk. But definitely don’t miss out on Sea Urchin, the hotel restaurant which, as the name implies, offers incredible seafood.

All the other hotspots, shops and restaurants are nearby on Petitenget or towards downtown Seminyak with Seminyak Village and Seminyak malls just a few minutes away. If you’re just getting settled in Bali and finding your bearings, or if you just like to be close to where all the action is but with the luxury of being able to retreat into your own little cocoon, then the Colony Hotel is definitely something for you.

  1. Great review. We were there back in March 2013. Looks like the owners have been able to maintain the facilities really well. It’s got a good location. Near enough to the action, but far enough to make it feel like a true retreat. I also agree with your opinions on the other points of interest around the hotel. Truly a great home base when in Bali.
