PICTURE PERFECT SCENERY AT HOTEL BEL AIR

I had so much fun editing the pictures of my stay in Los Angeles! One hotel in LA has been on the top of my hotel-bucketlist for the longest time: Hotel Bel Air. Staying there was definitely the highlight of my trip through the US.

It was just a ten minute drive from Beverly Hills to Hotel Bel Air, up a slowly winding road through green canyons with villas on each side hidden behind tall green hedges. As soon as we parked the car and crossed the bridge over a small pond with swans, I fell in love with Hotel Bel Air

Hotel Bel Air has recently been completely refurbished and reopened. Yet I never felt like it was a huge property, as I strolled around and began to realise that although it is, with 103 rooms, a very intimate hotel, it is actually a lovely mansion sprawled against the hills. It was hard to believe I was actually right in the middle of Los Angeles, only a short drive to the coast or to the heart of the city.

Impeccably maintained and decorated in a lovely light pink, a color that I absolutely adore, the Hotel Bel Air just oozes Hollywood glamour and history in every corner. We slept only a few feet from the pool where Marilyn Monroe did her last photoshoot before her tragic death and there are dozens of Hollywood stories about this hotel! I loved how it’s not just one large building, but a maze of gardens, fountains, flower beds and chic rooms and suites nestled underneath palm trees that offer beautiful shadows under the bright blue LA skies. I learned that this architecture is a Spanish colonial style, a reminder of the era when California was still a part of Mexico.

We were upgraded to a wonderful suite with a private patio, surrounded by gorgeous trees and plants. It was such a joy to swim some laps in the heated oval shaped pool and then take a hot shower in the all marble bathroom underneath a large skylight. The boyfriend really enjoyed the Bang & Olufsen tv and the high tech tablets that controlled the lights, airconditioning and even offered the option to order room service.

My boyfriend is a longtime fan of Wolfgang Puck, the Austrian celebrity chef that is best known for Postrio’s, his star studded restaurant in LA and who also runs the restaurant in Hotel Bel Air. He went crazy over the pasta from room service after we checked in at night and then got up at 7 am, a lifetime first, all bright eyed and bushy tailed to head to breakfast. And boy, he (and I!) were not disappointed! I’m not a real foodblogger, more like a large fan of wonderful food, so I have a tough time describing exactly how the various dishes taste, but I hope that the pictures can give you an idea of how absolutely gorgeous the food was.

If the ambiance, the suite and the food wasn’t enough of an incentive to go back to Hotel Bel Air soon, the beautiful La Prairie Spa definitely is. The interior of the spa has been completely refurbished and was designed by Alexandra Champalimaud, who has done a remarkable job of making things look beautiful yet simple at the same time.

The Hotel Bel Air is a unique place where I truly felt like the princess of Bel Air.
