Princess of Waikiki

After 5 years I finally made it back to Hawaii, although this visit came a bit quicker than expected due to the tragedy caused by Hurricane Irma in the Caribbean. Originally, I was planning to visit the British Virgin Islands after a stopover on Sint Maarten, but both were devastated by Irma. I hope the people there will be able to rebuild their lives again and I plan to visit the region as soon as possible. Since we were already planning to visit Oahu this winter, we expedited our plans and were thrilled to check in at the Prince Waikiki.

After a long flight from Europe with a short stopover in LA, you can imagine how thrilled we were to be greeted by a friendly receptionist with cold towels and a lovely drink to freshen up. A quick check in later, we whizzed up to our rooms in the glass elevators on the outside of the building that I like so much: as we shot up, we saw the green mountain range behind Waikiki appear before us.

ROOM //
The Prince Waikiki was recently renovated and with it came some really magnificent improvements. Every room has a wonderful bed and a spectacular ocean view overlooking Ala Moana harbour, offering beautiful sunsets. Our room was bright, spacious, with light colours and nifty touches like automatic window blinds and curtains. I particularly loved the floor to ceiling windows, that could open all the way to let in the tropical ocean breeze. The large bathroom had a separate bathtub and shower and high quality toiletries. You may have caught on to my obsession with those fancy Japanese-style toilets that are luckily now popping up all around the world. We have seen them in Switzerland and Korea and now in Hawaii at the Prince Waikiki!

THE POOL //
I started our first day at the Prince Waikiki early at the fifth floor pool that overlooks the harbour. The Prince Waikiki is not a beachfront property, but the pool plus the easy walking access to Magic Island make this a fantastic spot to enjoy your vacation on Oahu.

I usually don’t spend a lot of time in malls, but I have to admit that having legendary Ala Moana Mall, repeatedly voted best mall in the Pacific, across the street was actually very practical. There are some amazing stores there that wouldn’t be out of place in Ginza or Beverly Hills. Other practical perks were the free parking and fast wifi that were included with the resort charge. The Prince Waikiki offers a shuttle service into Waikiki, its golf course and the Ala Moana shopping center, if you think the 5 minute walk is too far with heavy shopping bags 😉
