Santorini is not only one of the most beautiful Greek islands, it is also one of the most expensive ones. The daily arrival of cruise ships has driven up prices and it is very difficult to find affordable, but tasteful places to stay. After our stay at the beautiful Erossea Villa, we wanted to check out the other side of the island and managed to find an affordable, yet stylish hotel there: The Impressive One.
Hotel The Impressive One is located in the heart of Santorini near the lovely village of Pyrgos, which is home to a restaurant you really shouldn’t miss: Botargo, just a magnificent place for a cocktail and an incredible meal while overlooking Santorini. The Impressive One has the advantage to be near many interesting destinations. Akrotiri and the lighthouse on the western tip to see the gorgeous sunsets, is only a 15 minute drive. The lovely beaches of Perissea and Pervolos are just 10 minutes away and the beautiful vineyard Santo Wines is the neighbour up the street!
Newly built in 2017 with 15 stylish rooms and suites, The Impressive One is inspired by the island’s white color architecture. We stayed in one of the very spacious suites, with a large, super comfortable bed and a modern bathroom. From the window and balcony we had a fantastic view towards the coast and the famous red Santorini sunsets.
I know dark, grey and black pools are becoming more and more popular, but I love a light blue pool in a sunny location like Santorini. It just makes me happy to see those aqua blue colors, even though the pool wasn’t heated and I didn’t splash around it it much, this being late October already! But on those long, hot summer days on Santorini, this pool is perfect to cool off and the sun beds around it are super comfy.
We were looking forward to breakfast every morning. I love the combination of a buffet breakfast plus a la carte options, like Greek scrambled eggs and toast with cream cheese and salmon. Also we happily enjoyed having lunch at the lovely terrace at the Impressive One after we came back from exploring the island. Which is an important tip, by the way: rent a car when you’re on Santorini because even though the island is small, without a car you’re either riding on of those quads sitting behind each other in the hot sun, or stuck in one location which would really be a shame.
We felt so at home at The Impressive One that we decided to stay a full week, even postponing our trip to Mykonos. Much of this has to do with the wonderful staff, who are among the friendliest group of people you can hope to meet while traveling. From reception to the staff in the restaurant, everyone has a genuine smile and that must have something to do with the family ownership and family mentality of this small Santorini gem!
