Fresh NEW Four Seasons Singapore

We thoroughly enjoyed our first stay at the Four Seasons Singapore, a few years ago. So when we learned the hotel recently underwent a multimillion dollar renovation to its rooms and suites, we were very curious to return. Located just steps away from the shopping heaven on Orchard Road, the Four Seasons Singapore can’t really be beat for location. It’s also practical to be so close to a stop of the MRT, the extremely efficient Singapore subway system.

ROOM //
The rooms at the Four Seasons are among the largest guest rooms of all the hotels in the Orchard Road area, which is not just very pleasant but also allows for a few very practical features. Our Executive Suite had a separate living and sleeping area and even a separate guest bathroom, which I appreciate as a real luxury amenity.

The boyfriend’s favorite feature was the enormous television in the living room, which was the largest tv we have ever seen in a hotel room. It almost competed for attention with the large floor to ceiling windows with beautiful city views over Orchard Boulevard, letting in plenty of natural light. To control the amount of light in the bedroom, the bedrooms doors are equipped with the type of wooden blinds one typically finds in colonial houses in southeast Asia. I love such subtle touches and references to the location of a hotel. Although I must admit that the motorized drapes on the large windows are really practical as well!

The style of the new Four Seasons Executive Suite is very luxurious, with subdued and subtle colors and beautiful finishes like the soft leather wall panels with golden details in the bedroom. Any girl will love the dressing table by the bedside, while every traveler can find use for the many power outlets and USB charging ports around the suite. The bathroom in the Four Seasons Executive Suite has not been completely upgraded like the rest of the suite. The marble is still beautiful and the amenities from L’Occitane are of the quality you would except from Four Seasons. As is the impeccable service, with a great turndown service every night and nice details like the complimentary teabags from TWG and Lavazza coffee capsules.

POOLS & TENNIS //
The idea of a city hotel like the Four Seasons Singapore, is that if want to relax and rejuvenate after a busy day around the city, there is every opportunity to do so in the hotel. The Four Seasons Singapore therefore has not just one, but two swimming pools. There is a lap pool and jacuzzi on the third floor, plus a rooftop family pool with panoramic views over Singapore. We went to both pools and it was never crowded. Each pool has an attendant that makes sure you always have a supply of fresh towels and refreshing ice teas. If you are more of an athlete than I am, you will appreciate the gym and the tennis courts.

BREAKFAST //
Breakfast at One-Ninety restaurant is an experience in itself…  I highly recommend taking the time every morning to start your day there! Decorated as a beautiful garden style brasserie, the Four Seasons Singapore has a spectacular, extensive buffet spread with many stations including fruits, cereals, home-baked pastries and Japanese, Chinese and Indian options. There is even a mimosa station where the staff will pop open a new bottle and squeeze some fresh orange juices, to create the best possible mimosas.

We had a late breakfast as the buffet was almost closing, yet the Four Seasons Singapore staff was still restocking on items so even the last guest has the same top notch experience as the first one. This is the kind of attention to details that make a hotel among the best in the world. The service is amazing, everyone is quick in cleaning the plates the moment you’re done, or refilling coffee the moment you put an empty cup down. Getting back to the a la carte option, I should explain that this means you can basically ask for things you feel like having, within reason. From extra cream, or a fresh avocado, as long as it is in season the staff at One-Ninety will accommodate you in every way they can.

To our surprise, the brilliant restaurant manager Ivan Rodrigues recommended us to try some a la carte options as well, as if there wasn’t yet enough choice! He suggested a stunning Singaporean style omelet with a signature chili crab sauce, one of the best egg dishes I have ever tasted. We also tried the famous Singaporean Kaya toast, which may look simple, but has an absolutely amazing delicate flavor. Kaya is a sweet, creamy spread made of eggs, coconut jam, sugar and pandan leaves. And this may sound strange, but there are sweet and savory ways how to enjoy it best: some people enjoy it mixed with half boiled or poached eggs, while we tried the Singaporean way, which is to dip into black coffee. I know, it sounds peculiar but you will thank me if you try it!

We heard great stories about the Sunday brunch at One-Ninety with its signature seasonal Seafood Tower, but unfortunately we were out exploring Singapore. That is just one of the many reasons I can’t wait to get back to the Four Seasons Singapore!
