Retro vibes at the Tilden hotel San Francisco

On our second stop in San Francisco this year, we stayed for a four day stopover on our way to Hawaii. The weather was breathtaking and so much nicer than when we were here in June!

The Tilden hotel is a boutique hotel at just steps away from Union Square and all the shops, department stores, restaurants and theaters in the heart of San Francisco. It is a great starting point for daily explorations of the city: on one day, we walked up to Nob Hill, descended through Chinatown to the Ferry Building and strolled back over Union Square to the hotel, all within a few hours.

The moment we walked in to check in, we were greeted with coffee. It turns out there is always water and coffee in the lobby for the hotel guests, such a nice touch. Even though it was barely noon, our room was ready and after unpacking we checked out the hotel. Recently refurbished, the Tilden oozes a retro vibe with an art deco inspired lobby and neat surprises like a backyard!

THE ROOM //
Our room was located on the inside and overlooked the patio. I liked the plantation style wooden shutters, perhaps they are the reason why our room did not need an AC but did have a ceiling fan. Every room has a mini-fridge, very practical to store some drinks and groceries, and the stylish black and white bathroom comes fully stocked with amenities from Malin+Goetz.

The rooftop has a spectacular view over the city and you can ask the front desk to have a staff member escort you there to take a look. This would be a great spot for a party!

The small gym room has a few free weights, an exercise bike and a rowing machine, plus yoga mats for yoga and floor exercises.

THE FOOD //
The Douglas Room is the restaurant in the Tilden Hotel that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus there are interesting light bites during happy hour, with some original San Francisco inspired cocktails. I strongly recommend the avocado toast and French toast for breakfast. We shared a burger for lunch and that was also very tasty. The Tilden Cafe is open every morning for fresh pastries and specialty coffees, like the best mocha I ever had!
