The Belmond Jimbaran Puri Bali was the second Belmond property I stayed at, after having enjoyed the Belmond Maroma in Mexico in the spring. When we arrived at the Belmond Jimbaran after less than a 15 minute drive from the airport, we were greeted warmly and invited to participate in an original welcome ceremony: we were handed a large wooden hammer and asked to smack it against a wooden gong. They didn’t have to ask twice! I really enjoy these kind of welcoming gestures, that make you feel like you are truly welcome and not just a nameless customer.

The Belmond Jimbaran is one of the few hotels on Jimbaran Beach with direct ocean access. The beachfront location is bordered by lush tropical gardens that are very well maintained. It is in this area where our villa was located.

–
We stayed at one of the 22 deluxe pool villas (the resort has another 4 pool villas and 38 cottage suites) which had very large rooms, all decorated in a traditional Balinese style. After opening the gate and crossing the beautiful private garden we entered the villa in the spacious living room, which had a large sofa, a separate desk and even a dining table. The bedroom had one of these nice, large and comfortable beds with a romantic tropical mosquito net, yet I liked the bathroom the most: very spacious closet space, a his and her sink, a bathtub and two showers: one indoor and one outdoor shower, which I just love!

EXPERIENCES //
The Belmond Jimbaran offers some very nice experiences, like a temple tour of on property temples where I got to participate in some of the ceremonies.
–
–
I also marvelled at the dedication and skill of the artist during an egg painting demonstration.
–
–
However, the activity that stood out from all the others, for me, was the Sunset Cruise to Uluwatu temple. It was a beautiful 2 hour cruise on a private boat just before sunset along the Uluwatu coast, capped off by a traditional Balinese offering while we floated in the ocean, just off the Uluwatu Temple! The crew was very friendly and full of enthusiasm, so this is an experience I highly recommend.

BREAKFAST //
I really enjoyed the breakfast at the Belmond Jimbaran, as it offered the choice of a very large breakfast buffet, yet also offered many à la carte options. I loved how the buffet had many selections in a small bitesize, so we could try many different flavors without being full after the first plate. I wish more hotels would set up their breakfast buffet like this.

AFTERNOON TEA //
I always enjoy hot coffee or tea in the afternoon when I am in the tropics, whereas I don’t have hot drinks in the afternoon when I’m at home in Europe. So I looked forward every day to the moment when our butler would serve a lovely afternoon tea in our own villa. The selections would change daily but there was always a nice balanced mix of sweet and savory choices.

DINNER //
We had dinner with our feet in the sand at Nelayan Restaurant, which is located right on the beach of Jimbaran Bay! Chef Adi Wijaya prepared a special three-course meal that combined Western cuisine with Balinese influences. I always enjoy a lobster bisque, but this one came with chilled avocado which added a nice little tropical kick to the dish. The boyfriend loved his crab meat soup and for the main courses we took the approach of sharing and caring. I had the ceviche and soft shell crab and the boyfriend ordered the wagyu beef striploin. Both dishes were simply incredible. Although I was afraid I’d be full the moment it was dessert time, the Singaraja Coffee Caramel Creme Brulee was just perfect. Sweet, but not too heavy!

BEACH
I shouldn’t forget to highlight the one thing that is obviously of crucial importance when you stay at a beachfront location: the beach! As you probably know, the quality of the beaches on Bali varies greatly; some beaches are rocky, dark and black, but the beach at the Belmond Jimbaran has powder soft white sand. The waves are usually very gentle and there are no rocks, so wading into the ocean and swimming is absolutely wonderful. It’s quiet, no loud music blaring over the speakers, but no so quiet or remote that you can’t waive a friendly waiter over to ask for a nice cold beverage 😉

The beachfront pool at the Belmond Jimbaran is enormous and great even for lap swimmers. My suggestion is to alternate between the pool and the beach and then you just can’t go wrong – which would be my headline if I had to summarize staying at the Belmond Jimbaran!

What gorgeous photos – looks like an absolutely amazing time! And all of your dresses are just beautiful – perfect for a tropical beach vacation. I love that you were able to participate in some of the local rituals and I know what you mean about some of the places being a bit on the shady side when it comes to food preparation. We thought it would be neat to eat at a local eatery in Dominica. We went to the second floor of what might have been an apartment building or office building – really couldn’t tell. And the menu was only one or two items with sides written on a chalkboard. It was OK but in retrospect, I think we should have stayed on the beaten path 😛 That was years ago and we didn’t get sick and no hepatitis here, thank goodness. Thanks so much for sharing this lovely place and I’m ready to go now!

Okay, this actually makes me want to go visit Bali!! We live so close (it’s as quick as flying to our nearest city- my hometown) but I’ve never gone. So many Australian’s go that are loud and obnoxious I didn’t want to be associated with them. But this looks so relaxing! How beautiful are the grounds! The cruise sounded great too.
