After a disastrous car rental experience in Orlando, where I spent an hour in line for our reserved rental car after a 12 hour flight, I decided to give Silvercar a try in Miami. I had heard great things about them and the reservation process was extremely simple: similar to Uber, you just download the app, register your creditcard once and after that everything is handled online.
Since it was my first time using Silvercar, once we got to their location, Indira from Silvercar did check my driver license and creditcard. Next time I can just walk up to a Silvercar at their garage, aim the app at a QR-code that’s attached to the windshield, the doors will open and I can drive off. No lines, no hassle.
But since this was my first rental with Silvercar, I actually found Indira’s help very useful. She offered us some cold drinks, quickly connected our phones to the Bluetooth and wifi in the car, stored our hotel address in the navigation system as a favorite and we were good to go!
As a blogger, I obviously found the in-car wifi to be particularly useful. Or, as my boyfriend aka mr. Silvercar driver, puts it: it’s heavenly to be driven around like a digital diva with my laptop, iPad and iPhone all working together seamlessly, as if I were at home or in the office. It’s also really nice to have your own Spotify playlist playing over the car stereo.
And speaking about music, I thoroughly enjoyed the built in Sirius satellite radio -which we don’t have in Europe- as it allowed me to listen to radio stations from New York and Los Angeles, while driving around the Florida Keys. A final thing to highlight that I have never experienced with a car rental: Silvercar has a gizmo installed that allows you to just drive through every toll booth and pay later on your creditcard bill. No more need to stop at every toll booth, like we had to do in Orlando.
Which almost makes me forget to mention the car! The thing is, truthfully, that I’m not much of a car expert. But I really enjoyed driving a brand new 2015 Audi A4 with only 14 miles on it around South Florida. The fourwheel drive car drives smooth, the seats are comfortable, even after driving for several hours; and it’s quite fuel efficient, which I find important. Silvercar is expanding into more and more cities, so I hope I can use them again on my next adventure.
Update! I am very pleased that I can offer you a special offer when you start using Silvercar. Use promocode: MPOORTEN and receive $50 off your booking for any rental over two days. Let me know how you like the silver drive!
