As you may know, I used to live in Bali for a few years working as a jewelry designer for a brand that I had started developing as a graduation project in college. Ever since then, that magical island has a special place in my heart, but it had been almost two years since I spent longer than a few days in Bali.

I especially love Seminyak, the hip and happening town where I used to live, just north of the dreadfully touristy Kuta. Seminyak has gone through an amazing change over the last couple of years with more and more wonderful restaurants and stores opening up. Stay tuned for a special post dedicated to those beautiful shops!

The drawback of the rapid growth of Seminyak has been the establishment of a bunch of ugly, uninspired chain hotels that I will not name here. Instead, I want to focus on a hotel right on the main street of Seminyak, Oberoi Street, that is quite new and does try to be a special destination: Ize Seminyak. If you follow me on Instagram, I’m sure you’ve caught the pictures I took while staying there.

The Ize Seminyak clearly aims for the sophisticated traveller with a tasteful mix of snow-white and sky-blue colors and lots of natural materials. The rooms are clean, spacious, with ample storage space and a large bathroom with a great rainforest shower. In a nutshell, the Ize Seminyak is light, it’s bright and it has a killer rooftop pool!

You don’t go to Seminyak to stay in your room or just hang out at the hotel, but that pool made it quite difficult to leave the Ize Seminyak… there’s a bar right next to the pool and sipping a cocktail while enjoying the beautiful view over Seminyak was very tempting. When I did leave the Ize Seminyak, I didn’t even have to get on my scooter or get a cab: all I wanted was within walking distance. A large variety of restaurants, luxurious shops, spa’s for a massage or a mani/pedi, everything was available within a 5 minute walk.

That also means that if you are going to Bali to find serenity, peace and tranquillity, the Ize Seminyak is not for you because it’s right in the heart of everything. But if you want to spend (a few days of) your vacation in the hottest town of Bali and enjoy everything Seminyak has to offer, there is no better place than the Ize Seminyak.
