STAYCATION AT HOTEL JEN TANGLIN SINGAPORE

One of the most difficult things to consider when planning a citytrip, is picking the right hotel. I prefer to stay close to where all the action is, but not actually right in the middle of all the hustle and noise.

Therefore the Hotel Jen Tanglin was an easy choice in Singapore. It is a stylish and friendly destination, located in the heart of Singapore. Formerly known as the Traders Hotel before it underwent a major refurbishment two years ago, the Hotel Jen lies close to the Singapore Botanical Gardens and is only a 10 minute stroll away from the famous shopping strip on Orchard Road.Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore Review BloggerIf you don’t feel like schlepping your shopping bags back to the hotel, the hotel Jen offers a daily complimentary shuttle service to take guests to key points in Orchard Road on an hourly basis. If you wish to explore the city by yourself, there are also bicycles which you can borrow for free from the hotel.

THE ROOM
We had the privilege of staying at a Club Double Room, with a bathroom with a walk-in shower and a super comfortable king-size bed. This bed is not only heavenly, but offers a special illusion at night when pressing the ‘Take-off’ button: it activates the mood lighting and gives the illusion of a floating bed! The room is approximately 25 sqm/269 feet, but they’ve made very clever use of a small space and it comfortably fits two people.Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore Review Blogger

CLUBLOUNGE
Staying at a Club Room offers the opportunity to use the exclusive check-in, reception and concierge services offered at the Club Lounge. Our room was on the same level as the Club Lounge (level 17) so it was extremely convenient to walk over to get some snacks and drinks during the day. The Club Lounge is a nice and light place to relax or actually get some work done. I love a broad view and this lounge offers a beautiful city view over Singapore.

The Club Lounge is accessible 24-hours a day with a room key and offers a range of extra benefits, such as a free breakfast, mid-afternoon culinary treats and cocktail hour, with lots of variety in dishes and bites. The large J65 restaurant on the ground floor is obviously also available for breakfast to Club Room guests, but it’s nice to always have the choice.

TECH STUFF
I’m a broadband-kinda-girl so the fast and free wifi in the hotel was not wasted on me! For the geeks: the boyfriend measured almost 20 M/bit downstream and upstream, which basically means my favorite sites and apps all streamed without a hiccup. This sounds like something trivial, but how often don’t you see hotels where you have to pay $20 per day for wifi, only to find it tediously slow? I also found myself often using the free phone charging stations that are discreetly placed all around the hotel.

WORK THAT BODY
Hotel Jen has a 24-hour, well equipped fitness center as well as a complete spa. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time, with everything Singapore has to offer, to enjoy any treatments but I hope to do so next time. I did thoroughly enjoy the large outdoor swimming pool, shaped like a frog face, with comfortable sunbeds to soak up the sun.

RESTAURANT J65
I already mentioned J65, the restaurant at the ground level of the hotel. It not only offers a sumptuous daily breakfast, varying from continental to Asian style dishes, but its daily buffet dinner is an absolute showstopper that you want to try out even if you’re not staying at the hotel. From salads to sushi to laksa, the dining options are breathtaking and I had a very difficult time deciding what to eat. The food is presented beautifully on various stations and it was almost as much a pleasure to circle the offerings, as it was to finally decide what to eat and enjoy everything.

  1. Hi Merel,
wow, I am speechless! So many beautiful pictures of the hotel. And the food, oh my God, the food looks so delicious. I want to eat the pink fruit and yogurt cake 🙂 And you look so happy, I can imagine that you really enjoyed the stay at this beautiful hotel in Singapore. Unfortunately I’ve never been to Singapore. It’s surely a nice stop when going to Bali 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend my friend :-*
